Foods to avoid if you have IBS

For clients suffering with IBS, the daily struggle of what to eat or avoid is real.

We know that different foods will be triggers for different people but there are some common ones I like to eliminate as quickly as possible while we work on healing the gut.

1. Gluten – found in some grains. Gluten intolerance is quite common and so I recommend eliminating this straight away to see if this helps ease some of the symptoms. Gluten can cause low-grade chronic inflammation that some clients aren’t aware of.

2. Many IBS sufferers find dairy is a trigger – especially for diarrhoea. Using dairy alternatives such as almond milk and getting calcium from leafy greens, nuts, seeds and bony fish can be helpful.

3. Fried foods can be hard to digest as the healing of the oils changes the chemical makeup of the food.

4. Caffeine is a common trigger and is best swapped for herbal teas and water.

5. Artificial sweeteners can cause gas, discomfort and diarrhoea. If you are struggling with your gut health, get in touch and I can explain how my gut-focused packages work to restore your gut health.
