Turkish Meat Pie
A tasty meat pie that's lighter on pastry but still filling.
Ingredients
- 1.5 tbsp butter melted, divided
- 1/2 onion medium, sliced
- 340 g extra lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp za'atar spice
- 2 cups baby spinach
- 2 tbsp parsley chopped
- 2 tbsp pine nuts
- 170 g filo pastry
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190oC). In a pan over medium heat, add 1/3 of the butter along with the onion. Sauté the onion for about five minutes or until soft. Add the beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Cook for seven to eight minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add za'atar spice, spinach, salt, and pepper. Cook for another two minutes, remove from the heat, and stir in the pine nuts and parsley.
- Cut the phyllo sheets to the size of a loaf pan. Brush the loaf pan lightly with butter. Layer half of the phyllo sheets in the pan and brush each layer lightly with butter. Spread the beef mixture evenly on top. Layer the remaining phyllo sheets on top with butter in between each layer.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan, cut the pie, and enjoy!
